Helping teachers and students learn to engage in science authentically.

What Is Idealized
Science?

Idealized Science is a framework that enables students to participate in authentic scientific practice. We believe that all students, regardless of their demographic, can develop the habits and dispositions of scientists through this framework.

Origins

The above image pays homage to Dialogo, Galileo’s seminal work showing how science progresses through dialogue. Critique through discourse is a core tenet of the Idealized Science framework.

The Underpinnings of Science Education

Learning about educational research is integral to understanding how we learn science. Education is not a mystical process, but one that like any engineering plan, requires making choices about what is most valued and what is simply façade.

Breaking down the important features of teaching and learning science make it not only more efficient, but also more enjoyable!

Authentic Science Lessons

Science is more than just learning how to solve problems in a textbook or memorizing formulas. Organizations like Khan academy, while useful for passing the next exam, provide primarily content-focused educational resources.

Idealized Science is about much more: learning about what science is and what scientist do. And then, engaging students in those practices as they explore scientific content. Here, both theoretical work and experimentalism are used as ways of understanding the possible and demarcate the impossible.

Authentic Engagement

Science is as social as it is based in the material world. Knowledge gets certified through the process of peer-review. Critique is the key aspect of aligning what we think we have with what actually is! In this manner, science gives voice to the Nature.

“The hardest step is the first one; once you get started, it becomes easier.”
